Day #5: Week in Review

The best part of the week was when we finally finished our segment. I felt a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders. I think that our segment turned out very well. I'm so proud of what we put together!

The low part of the week was all the stress that came with putting together our segment. Putting together the segment was the most difficult thing I've done related to journalism. I am glad that it is now finished, and I have something to show off!

I have had an AMAZING time this week. This is my second and last time coming to the camp, and it's something I'll never forget. I am going to miss Mrs. Lee and James. They are amazing teachers and leaders! I can't wait to see them again sometime!

And I'll miss all of the friends I've made. I hope to see every sometime soon!

Maggie Kelley

      The high point of the week was when the pole vault video came together in the end.  It was my idea from the start so it was really exciting to see it come together.  It was also interesting because it was not a well known story so it had interest.  Pole vaulting never seems to get much recognition in the sports field so I was happy we could cover it.
      The low point of the week was when we missed the pole vault meet.  I was really hoping to get video clips from the actual event.  We fixed the problem, but when it first happened I was afraid we would have to cut the entire clip

High's and Low's

High's: Anchoring for the Grady Glee Report, Editing the UGA Myths segment, Collaborating with people that focus and get the job done, Playing RockBand and Glee Sing-a-long at Grady After Dark, Meeting new people with similar interests and ideas, Beating the clock and working under pressure with positive results...Grady Glee is just awesome in general!

Low's: Less sleep, dealing with problems that occurred while making the news report...Honestly I did not have really any lows from this camp. It was fun, engaging, and makes you want to go to the Grady School!

Kalin's Week in Review

I have learned so much from the Georgia Journalism Academy. I have received so much experience and I can teach my broadcasting classes at school all the wonderful things I have learned.  Learning timing and organization will definitely help me in the future.  THANK YOU SO MUCH GRADY GLEE!!!!!!

S- Strength
My strengths in this broadcasting class were reporting and editing.  Even though I am unfamiliar with the editing software, I still found a way to make it work and make a successful video project.

W- Weakness
My weaknesses were filming and working at the last minute.  When in the field I have a hard time getting great shots.  I have had projects turn out in a disaster and not know until the deadline that it was not very good.  I have had to make quick alterations so I can make my deadline.  In the end, I had learned how to deal with those situations.

O- Opportunity
I had the opportunity to learn how to use a different type of editing software and learn to work at a faster pace than I am used to.

T-Threat
Again, my biggest threat was TIMING.  It was hard to get things done absolutely PERFECT in the amount of time we were given.

David Hazinski

David Hazinski

David Hazinski from what I have heard is a wonderful professor at the University of Georgia (Grady College).  He is a former correspondent at NBC News.   My instructors, Ms. Lee and Mr. James has said that he is a tough teacher who doesn't take any excuses and has a wonderful sense of humor.  He is the head of Broadcast News.  Hopefully, if I am a student at UGA, I will have him as a professor.

Hailey Harrison- Broadcasting

Over the past week, I feel like we have accomplished so much! I have loved working with all of the broadcasting gleeks, sharing a passion for the same thing. We have worked as a team the whole way through and I am so proud of my team! Mrs. Lee and James have been awesome instructors and have taught me more than I could have hoped to learn! I have had little sleep, but I have loved everything I have done. This is definitely an experience that I will never forget!

Week in Review

This week has taught me so much about not only broadcast journalism, but other areas such as leadership and dedication. The highs for this week include working together as a team to produce an AMAZING show, learning to problem solve quickly, and enjoying bagels and laughs with my fellow journalists and Ms. Lee and JB. I consider the lows for this week to include the lack of dedication and leadership in the class at some points and the rush we were often in to put this show together. Overall, however, I think that this week and this broadcast has been a success and has definitely showed me that hard work is stressful, but can also be so incredibly fun.

Week in Review

As a lows for the week, I was disappointed that towards the middle it became stressful because of all the things to do with so little time.  Also the inexperience of our crew didn't help.  But in the end they came through and did a great job!  We all learned a lot from this experience and I look forward to doing this again next year.
As highs for the week, I think we really bonded as a group.  We all know each other pretty well now, even those people who weren't in our groups, and we made friends.  And of course the broadcast turned out great!  Hope to see y'all again next year!

This Week

This week has gone by so fast. I don't want it to end :( I have learned a lot more then i thought and everything was a high for me! Except for having so sound on an interview... but everything worked out and fell into place. This camp was well organized and i actually had a lot of fun. It started out only being a way to get credit for a class, but turns out i want to come back next year and be apart of this amazing experience one again :). I learned how to really manage your time and to work diligently. Ms. Lee and James are such great teachers and i learned more than i would have ever imagined!

High's & Lows

This week has honestly went by so fast, but I had a blast this entire week. Even though at times I experienced my lows, which were starting off at a rocky start and coming to class seven minutes late. However, my highs were amazing, because I was offered many opportunities. For example, I had the chance to interview essential people in the community of UGA. In addition, I met with Channel 2 News reporter Jeff Dore, and he gave more wonderful advice about becoming an upcoming news reporter.

High and lows

The high points of this week was making new friends within my journalism broadcasting class. Also all the activities we did as a camp especially skate night. I look forward to next year. The low points of this camp were only the intense deadlines and the workload. I had a really fun time ,i really appreciate what UGA is doing for my future.

S.W.O.T

Strengths: My strengths this week were being able to write, it helped my group and i felt very accomplished. Weakness: My weakness this week was that I didn't take every opportunity this week. For example, I wish would've gone to the red and black tour and the campus tour but i didn't take advantage of either of them. Opportunities: I had the opportunity to live the college life for a week and stay in a dorm room. I also had the opportunity to create a full broadcast and work with my sports group. Threats: My threat was not being able to interview anyone from the football program, i really wish they weren't so protected.

Jaiah Rodgers Blog Entry Five- "Week-in Review"

The highs, for me this week is that I was most definitely determined to work and my partners had just as much of a drive as me, so everything worked smoothly. Another high for me was that working on the scripts and everything was also a great learning experience because normally, I'm just presented with the script.

The lows for me this week were my lack of sleep. I 'm tired and irritable every morning but as you can see, I manage to make it through.

David Hazinski

David Hazinski is a professor at UGA and a very unique man. He has different teaching methods and different ways to communicate with the students. He teaches a Grady college at the University of Georgia. In the past Hazinski has been involved with NBC and Atlas TV. If I were to interview Hazinski I would ask him what it is like to be a professor and what he likes the most about teaching and journalism.

Week in Review

This camp has been an unbelievable experience. I understood the knowledge it took to report stories. The reporting I worked on this week, was for nothing. In result, I have nothing to show for the time spent here at camp. I am not even apart of the broadcasting video. The main reason I came to camp was to report. Over all, the camp has been SO-SO.This camp was a great experience.  I wish everyone the best luck, that is apart of the camp! :)

highs and lowss

This past week I experienced both highs and lows. The highs I experienced included getting to interview people who really were impacted by sports here at uga. I got to see just how much uga students loved the campus and how much it had become part of their life. Another high was getting to actually report sports even if it was only for a small period of time. My school doesn't offer any journalism programs so it was definitely  a wonderful experience for me to do what I loved. A low that I experienced was when basically all hope seemed to be lost with the sports interviews. No players were allowed to talk to us, coaches were booked for weeks, and it seemed as though the story was better off just no longer being a part of the broadcast.

THE WEEK

My highs for this week were rooming with my bestfriend and spending time with her while working on something that we both were excited about doing. My lows were having to recreate the image of our segment and write something completely different in twenty minutes.

The highs of  my week were laughing with my best friend and collaborating with her over what we do best, finally finishing the editing on our piece, and Friday breakfast at Bolton. The lows of my week were rushing to rewrite our entire script twenty minutes before the unplanned shooting , especially after staying up till one a.m by myself to finish the original.

David Hazinski

David Hazinski is very important to journalist students at uga. Often times his methods of teaching are unique but all can agree they are still very influential. David is owner at Intelligent Media Consultants, professor of both Digital and Broadcast Journalism at the University of Georgia as well. In the past he was involved with  CNN-IBN, A Pink TV, Atlas TV, and even a correspondent at NBC news. One would assume that the professors love and passion for ugh and its student would have developed as young child but the professor did not attend Uga but attended college in Pittsburg. A random fact about the professor is that he can actually be followed on twitter with his most recent tweet being, "Asking people to watch a 30-second spot before watching a 2 minute online video is dumb. Ads are fine, but should be shorter".If I were to ever interview David Hazinski, I would ask the following few questions:
1) What influenced you to become so passionate about Journalism?
2) How have your students helped you develop more as a journalist?3) What would you call your teaching technique?
4)Was their a time in your life when you believed you did not want to be a journalist and what influenced you to question it?

Strengths: A strength I believe I have had this week is the ability to work well under poor circumstances. Weakness: I believe i have had this week are not explaining well to others properly my opinion towards issues regarding our section. Opportunities:I had the opportunity to get out their and actually interview people which is something I had never really been given the chance to do. Threats: The threat that mainly influenced me this week is how protected the football team is. The protection of the team and their players almost completely ruined the football section this week from happening.

Day #4: SWOT

Strengths: I believe that a strength that I've had this week is my ability to work well independently. I've had to do more this week on my own than I've ever had to do in my journalism class. It was a very good learning experience.

Weaknesses: My biggest weaknesses of the weak were my temper and attitude. Putting together my part of the broadcast was much more challenging than I had expected it to be. I am not the person to push through the stress easily. I have gotten frustrated and even teary-eyed, but I am starting to feel more relaxed with our package almost finished.

Opportunities: I have had so many opportunities this week that I am happy to have had. I have most importantly had the opportunity to learn. I have learned so much about broadcasting that I can take to my journalism class to work towards making a better broadcast for our school. I have had the opportunity to work with amazing journalists, and I couldn't have asked for better classmates this week.

Threats: A threat that I have had this week is letting my stress overcome me. There have been times where I didn't want to talk to anyone. I just wanted to go to my dorm-room and calm down. But I can say that I made it and that I'm working towards contributing to the amazing broadcast we'll put together by the end of the week.

      S:  My strength was working well under pressure.  When everything seemed to fall apart, my group was able to start up again and finish the project.
      W:  My weakness was my lack of experience.  My school doesn't have a broadcast journalism department, so this week helped me build on my experience.
      O:  I had the opportunity to learn how to operate a news camera and learn the basics of final cut pro.
      T:  The biggest threat this week was the lack of time.  With so much to learn and so little time, running out of time was a major threat the entire week.
     

Day 4: Self Evaluation

S- I believe my biggest strength was experience.  Having worked with cameras and final cut pro before and having done newscasts in the past, I was able to do my job and also help others along the way. 

W- I believe my biggest weakness was communication.  I feel like as an executive member I should have been able to always tell everyone what's going on.  At points it was apparent that my job was not done well.

O- I believe my biggest opportunity for the group was to make the opener.  I'm glad I had the priviledge of editing all of those clips into something that really seemed to make anyone who watched it smile.  It was a great feeling.

T- I believe my biggest threat to the group was that I occasionally may not have been serious as much as I should been.  Often I was trying to crack jokes to lighten the mood for everyone but it may have been a few times too often.  I need to learn to find that perfect medium.

SWOT

S: I believe my strengths are that I can get work done under crunch time, I take instruction carefully and meticulously, and that I step up to the plate to take on tasks that are not easy to do. W: I believe my weakness is that I try too hard to control the situations I'm in and don't allow anyone to help me out. O: I believe I had the opportunity to apply my broadcasting knowledge so far to this camp. It felt good for me to be around people with similar interests and I had a blast coming up with great ideas and applying them out in the field. I really think that this camp has furthered my understanding of broadcasting because it makes you feel like you're in a "real life" setting with real deadlines and real situations. T: I believe the major threat, for me at least, was group cohesiveness. If we did not come together as a team and work those long hours, I don't think we would've been able to get done. However, we bit our lips and stuck it out to the end to see our final product through.

S: For me, i am very dedicated, once i start something i don't finish until it is done and perfected. W: My weakness is focusing, my mind wanders around instead of staying on task on what i should do/am doing O: This is my first year in broadcasting and so i have never created a broadcast, i think it is super fun, but very tedious. This camp has been a huge opportunity for me to learn and really get the hang of it before going in this school year because i will really know more. T: I think what is stopping me is the possibility of me not really going anywhere. I love broadcast but so many people are interested that you really have to be super confident in yourself and believe that you can do it.

Day 4: S.W.O.T

Strengths: My greatest strength would be my ability to generate ideas quickly.

Weaknesses: My laziness in my biggest weaknesses.

Opportunities: Being able to live in what might be my future college of choice would be my greatest opportunity. Other than that, being able to meet so many new people and being able to have fun while working on what will be The Best Broadcast Ever was an unforgettable opportunity.

Threats: My only threat from having a horrible camp experience would be my lack of sleep. But on the other hand, I have been sleep deprived since last Thursday (don't ask).  :(

David is owner at Intelligent Media Consultants, professor of Digital and Broadcast Journalism at the University of Georgia. He has been a consultant and trainer at CNN-IBN, Aaj Tak, NDTV, GEO TV, Somoy TV, Star Ananda, Alsumaria, Pink TV, Atlas TV, Puls TV, etc., and correspondent at NBC News. He attended the University of Pittsburg.
If I were to ever interview David Hazinski, I would ask the following questions:

S: Filming, getting the shot shot of Little Mikey Church, and getting stuff done when it needs to be done.

T: The framing of the Guardsmen was potentially dangerous because I wasn't happy with it but you have o know how to use what you have and make it the best you can.

Tis week, my strengths has been, working good in front of the camera. Throughout the week, I learned a lot from Mrs.Lee. Being a former anchor herself, she his able to share her experiences. i was very committed , when shooting for the myths, "Believe it or Not." Some challenges have been team members, not being able to communicate with each other.

David Hazinski is a professor here at the University of Georgia. He teaches at Grady college, in the journalism department. If I interviewed Hazinski, I would ask "Why did he transform, to having a career in journalism to teaching." I would also ask" Would he ever write a book."

SWOT

Strengths: I have been good at bouncing ideas off of people to help solve problems or think of new ideas for the show. Also, I feel like I have contributed to an awesome package for the National Guard story.

Weaknesses: My interviews for the National Guard story was a tad weak. While they were done on the first day of camp and I had little experience, I feel as if it could have been executed better.

Opportunities: This week, Brooke and I finished most of the pre-production and production in the first two days of the camp. This allowed us more time to help out with other elements of the show and film the dean's press conference.

Threats: While everything is starting to turn out okay, there were some hiccups in the production of the broadcast show. I think this stressed out not only me, but everyone else. The thing that I learned from this, however, is that you have to be ready for the worst because it WILL happen.

Self evaluation

 My strength was my sarcasm , me and nichole were able to channel that into our video to create an entertaining segment. My weakness is that I'm not very good with editing on final cut, if I knew the program better I think I could have made the video editing process a lot quicker. For opportunities , I was able to do something light and fun with my life long bestfriend. My threat was when we had to rewrite our entire script in 20 minutes, but everything worked out well.

SWOT
This week, I think that our strengths have been in the executive team and the exec. producers. Mrs. Lee and JamesB. have been awesome at directing what each part of the group should be doing throughout the whole process. The individual groups have been committed to their part of the assignment, too.
For this week's weaknesses, there have been a few mishaps with communication (which is something hard to perfect). I think that at the beginning of the week, it was hard for some team members to accept their positions in the assignment, but they eventually realized that this was a team effort and was only going to work out if we each gave our all. Opportunities have come up with each of our segment subjects. Each story is a chance to show new perspectives and give people a chance to hear about something that otherwise may not be covered. Threat is a strong word, to me. I prefer to use challenges...challenges have occurred when stories have been up in the air and team members have been unsure of the segments.

W: My only two weakness are using FCP and writing certain segments. I just feel as i sometimes my writing segments are not as great as everyone else segments.

My strengths this week have been comedic timing and thinking of funny ideas. My weaknesses have been final cut pro and over the shoulder shots. My oppurtunities have been working with a great partner  with the same sense of humor as me and my threats have been some poor communication.

Jaiah Rodgers Blog Entry Four- "SWOT"

Strengths:
My strengths this week were my abilities to actually put my foot down with my group (even though I had a pretty responsible group, especially my anchor partner Eli). I really feel like since I've learned more with Final Cut Pro and my previous experience with working with the camera, I was also a big help to others.


Weaknesses: 
After a while of hard work, I began to get lazy and tired and lacking concentration.


Opportunities:
I had the chance to actually go out into the field, like a real anchor!


Threats:
One of my threats where having some or no transportation and having to walk by foot which was HORRIBLE. But it's worth it.

Jaiah Rodgers Blog Entry Three- "David Hazinski"

• David Hazinski is the principal of Intelligent Media Consultants, head of Digital and Broadcast News at the University of Georgia. He is also the former NBC correspondent.

In my opinion, Professor Hazinski seems like a well accomplished man, who has surpassed most of his goals in life. In my perspective, everybody labels him to be "crazy" and "tough". But, I feel like everybody is different. If I had to ask one question it would be, " What is your next goal that you are working forward too?"

The accomplishment of David Hazinski that struck me the most was that he spent six years as an international correspondent for NBC. In my eyes, working for one of the top news stations is a major accomplishment. Another astounding accomplishment was the twenty four hour broadcast station he set up in India. With all of his accomplishments, it is easy to see why he has won so many awards.

If I were to interview David Hazinski, I would ask him which of his accomplishments he was most proud of.  I would also ask him what his most interesting story was from all of his travels.  Then I would ask him what he would like to accomplish in the future.

Day #3: David Hazinski

David Hazinski is currently an associate professor and the head of broadcast news at the University of Georgia. He has been working at the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication since 1987. Before working at Grady, he was a correspondent for NBC News and WPXI-TV and a reporter for WSOC-TV.

Hazinski has received a large amount of criticism for an AJC article he wrote on "citizen journalism", which fired up independent writers, especially bloggers. He strongly believes that this is not journalism at all and should be monitored by the news industry. If I were to interview him, I would ask him what his opinions are on the reactions to what he said.

What I Think of David Hazinski

After reading a good amount about David Hazinski I realized that he encompasses two different characteristics: he's insane but he's also a visionary. He has so much experience that he either knows or supposedly has all the knowledge there is to know about broadcast news. Now some people may look at him from a point of view that he is egotistical and stubborn, but others view him as the cornerstone of broadcast news success. He has so much to offer anyone who has interest in the field of broadcast news and he decided to share that with the UGA students. He's created tons of television networks all over the world and was the genius behind the UGA Newsource 15. I believe he is an essential part of UGA even though some might not see him that way. If I could ask him a question it would be, "How did you get to the position you are in today and what kinds of things did you do to achieve success in broadcast news?"

Kalin's Media Mogul

As a child I always heard the name Robin Roberts.  Robin Roberts is my role model because she has accomplished all the things I want to accomplish.  She was a Sports Anchor for ESPN in the 90s and now she is an anchor on Good Morning America.  

But she started off as just a normal person like everyone else.  She was born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi and one unique factor about her is that her father was a Tuskegee Airmen.  She majored in Telecommunications and worked at local TV stations and later worked at a radio station in Atlanta, Georgia.  

To me, she has a strong fighting heart.  She fought breast cancer for a period of time while she was working for Good Morning America.  She went through KEMO therapy which in turn made her lose her hair.  She wore wigs until a special day when she was at an event, she took the wig off and walked on the scene being herself.  

My hope and dream is to be a reporter for ESPN.  I heard Robin Roberts speak at a national event that I attended.  She ever since then, has inspired me to be on top of my game.  I hope to be just like her one day.    

David Hazinski

Something I learned quickly about Mr. Hazinski after only about 2 minutes of research, he's an egomaniac.  For a journalist, however, this is not necessarily the worst thing.  To be a journalist you need some sort of ego, the will to want to be better than everyone else and the mind to actually believe that you are.  Hazinski is the epitome of this.  Although his ego is large, it seems that a majority of his students in fact really like him.  On www.ratemyprofessor.com all except one student said that his teaching is "good quality,"  and rating at least 3 out of five on for every student in the categories "helpfulness," "clarity," and "rater interest."  His class is said to be by no means easy, however, if you really do want to be a journalist, he shows you exactly what it's like.

Day 3: David Hazinski

I think Mr. Hazinski has some really cool global experiences such as working for CNN-IBN, which is CNN's India affiliate. I found that really interesting since I'm originally from there. One question I would have for Mr. Hazinski would be, "Why did you decide to teach at UGA and what made you want to stay and teach at UGA for so long?" 

David Hazinski Review

From my readings already of Mr. Hazinski he sounds very accomplished,wise,and a little bit scary. The cool thing that i saw is that when i read the reviews from his students all of them said the same thing, "journalism god". There are very few people you find in the world who have a sense of humor, are very intimidating, smart as a wiz, but also very sweet and may have a sold side. From what i have read he seems to have all these qualities down packed. If i had the chance to talk to him I would first ask him what influenced him to want to become a teacher and to stay a teacher for all these years. Another thing i would ask would be is why he hasn't written a book yet?! All of his students reviews say how he is the most interesting man to listen to and that your mind is opened completely just listening to him. I think that these kind of people are very rare to come across, great teachers are very hard to come across, and especially a great teacher with the ability to inspire and opened young peoples minds and make them see the world in a different way is magical.

David Hazinski accomplished so many things such as building the News source in UGA and becoming a professor. Those accomplishments really interest me. David's dedication to UGA is really interesting and inspiring.

David Hazinski

The phrase "my way or the highway" comes to mind when reading about David Hazinski. While this can be frustrating to students and coworkers, it seems to work for Hazinski, who is commonly referred to as a "real journalist." It is this quality that motivates people to have such high respect for Hazinski. He is also not afraid to take risks, an important quality in journalism and leadership positions. He has angered bloggers and the general public with some of his opinions, but his decision to stand behind his opinions and never change them just because of criticism speaks volumes about his character. If I had to ask Hazinski a question, I would ask him to respond to criticism on how he "is hoping to professionalize journalism, [even though] journalism is not a profession." I believe that most journalists believe that journalism is a profession, but it it would be interesting to hear Hazinski's insight on the topic.

David Hazinski

From what I read, David Hazinski seems to be the type of man who is either loved or hated. No middle ground. He believes blogs and internet journalism should be regulated and controlled. I read a few articles written about him and they were negative as negative can be. They heavily speak of his arrogance. What I found interesting though was his reviews on RateMyProfessors. They were such a sharp contrast from the news articles written about him. "David Hazinski is a God among Journalism teachers. He is honestly, the most engaging, enthusiastic man I've ever has as a teacher." -JOUR5590 He sounds like a very passionate man, and many times passion can come across as either arrogant or crazy, so I don't blame him for that. I disagree HEAVILY with his theory that someone's opinion or new should be limited or withheld. If I were to interview him I would ask him about his opinion of the First Amendment (which includes the freedom of speech and the freedom of press).

To me Hazinski seems like the kind of guy who is annoying and overall unpleasant to talk to. I read an article on NewsBusters.org that really illustrated his pompous attitude and I feel like he gives himself too much credit, no matter how much experience he has had. I'm sure he is a brilliant man in some aspects, but  I still believe being humble about your accomplishments is sometimes more important than your abilities themselves. If I interviewed him I would ask him what makes him think he can censor and  edit other people's personal expressions of emotion online and ask him if that violated what America stands for.

David Hazinski

David Hazinski has stated that he believes it is the job of the new industry to monitor what is put on blogs. I personally do not agree with his perspective because censoring free expression of people leaves no purpose for others to make their own blogs. Opinions should be able to be stated without fear of others changing the statements made. If I were interviewing him I would ask him whether he believes the freedom of  speech would still take place if he has the power to alter it.

Day 2: Media Mogul

One of the most common household names for me growing up was Katie Couric. She is truly inspirational especially because she seems to have done it all in the world of broadcast journalism from The Today Show Anchor to ABC News Special Correspondent. Also knowing what she's been through with the loss of her husband and sister to cancer in addition to losing her father to his struggle with Parkinson's Disease makes her even more of a role model journalist in my eyes. I thought it was so cool that she broadcasted her colonoscopy and her mammogram live! It was eye opening to know that those two broadcasts inspired others to take those medical exams as well and it was later dubbed, "The Couric Effect". Katie Couric is not just the average journalist because she is one of the rare ones who has touched lives and made a difference. 

Day 2: Media Mogul

One of my all time favorite media mogul is Diane Sawyer. Diane Sawyer really inspires me, is because when l grow up I would love to be a news anchor just like her. In addition, Ms.Sawyer always seems to be enjoying her job, as an special correspondent for ABC News and Good Morning America. Furthermore, Diane Sawyer takes it to the next level of journalism, by talking to audience as if she was having a one-on-one conversation.

Day #2: Media Mogul

When deciding who to choose as my favorite media mogul, the finalists were Bill O'Reilly, Steven Colbert, Megyn Kelly, and Samantha Brown. It took a lot of thinking over, but I had to choose Samantha Brown. Hands down, she has the coolest job in the world. I mean, getting paid to travel the world, stay in the most luxurious hotels, trying amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and party with foreigners? Who wouldn't want that job? I know I would.

I first started watching Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel when I was watched one of her Disney World shows. I am completely obsessed with all things Disney and Disney World, so any Travel Channel special on the happiest place on Earth is worth my time. She got to stay in the glamorous suite in Cinderella's castle, she spent days in Disney World trying every ride (I'm sure she didn't have to wait in a line), and she got to have experiences that most visitors never have. I knew then that I wanted to be like her.


While watching her other shows, I've seen her go to Italy, France, China, and many other amazing countries. Samantha Brown is so inspiring to me because she always has a bubbly, adventurous personality and is willing to try anything (and I mean anything), even if it is unexpected and scary at first. I'm not 100% sure of what I'd like to do when I'm older, but being able to work for the Travel Channel is at the top of my list. Maybe one day I'll be the next Samantha Brown.



Maggie Kelley

Chelsea Handler

      I'm such a huge fan of Chelsea and she never fails at making me laugh. She has her own nightly talk show on E! called Chelsea Lately. She has successfully established herself as a comedian and made it into Time's top 100 influential people. She inspires me so much because so many people try to make it big and break into the spotlight of fame and they spend years and years and never get anywhere. In a relativity short amount of time she has made it big. Aside from making the big time she has stayed so true to herself. If she has something to say, whether it be politically correct or not (usually not), she'll say it and not waste her time worrying about what is "safe" to say. I look up to her because she says exactly what she feels she needs to say, she is brilliantly blunt, and I find it important to stay true to yourself throughout life and especially when you're in the public eye.

Maggie Rodriguez

Maggie Rodriguez was vey close to my family for a long time and she inspired in many ways. At first I was insecure about both my writing ability and my confidence to get in front of the camera and she encouraged me that peoples opinions should never stop me from doing what I love. I enjoyed watching her as well because she was not just robotic when she spoke but you could tell she really was passionate about her career . For those reasons to me Maggie Rodriguez makes a great role model.

ellen degeneres

ellen degeneres has been seen as an inspiring television personnel who as touch the hearts of many. She has given people the opportunity to forget their troubles and laugh along with her. Her show has become a talk show to treasure and with that talk show she has influenced many lives. Her generous donations and constant service to those in need shows that she is a woman of compassion and love. She has shown many the meaning of enjoying life and had gifted each and everyone of her viewers with some sort of inspiring message. Whether on the red carpet or off camera ellen... is ellen and think thats what I admire most about her. She is confident and kind and has set the stage for future talk shows to come.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is without a doubt one of the biggest names in today's TV industry. Her name is known all over the world and she's used her abundance of money and fame mostly for the good by making known some neglected people groups and encouraging people to donate to their cause. She has charisma and the energy to keep up a successful talk show for several years without the audience losing interest. The thing that really inspires me is that Oprah hasn't always had such an opulent lifestyle; she was poor when she was younger and even lived on a farm for a while. I feel like the fact that she had to work hard for fame and success makes her story inspiring and special; Oprah is without a doubt one of the most inspirational women stories in television today.

Media Mogul

My favorite media mogul would have to be Larry Munson. In my eyes he was a key spark to Georgia football and is part of the reason the bulldogs won the national title in 1980. I like to go on youtube and listen to the games that he has announced. He was so good that some people didnt even watch the game, instead they would tune in to Larry on the radio. He would make all of the games exciting. He knew everything there was to know about every player and coach. I hope one day I can be as successful as Larry Munson. He is my inspiration and my role model.

My Media Mogul

When I think of someone in the media who inspires me, Diane Sawyer comes to mind. Not only has she had experience on different news shows, but she is also a strong female presence in the media. I think that role models like Diane Sawyer help women realize that the industry doesn't have to be male dominated; women make amazing reporters, producers, and anchors. I want to be able to have as much experience as she has had, and maybe even more.

Hoda Kotb

Hoda Kotb is on the Today show in New York. She inspires me and makes me want to be in broadcasting because of her individuality and her great and fun personality on air. She knows how to make people laugh and want to watch her show because she gives information and current events that are happening as well as cracking a joke in between. I want to be like that and make people want to see me on air when i grow up!

My favorite media mongol is definitely Robin Williams. She really inspires me since she works in the position that i want to be in when i grow up. The way she handles herself on Channel 5 news really teaches me how to be a lady and a future news reporter.

Day 1: Quote of Inspiration

Our job is only to hold up the mirror - to tell and show the public what has happened (Walter Cronkite). Many people are under the impression that it is a journalist's job to twist the main story for the sake of sensationalism, when in reality, it is a journalist's job to reflect the truth of the matter for the entire world to see. In my opinion, this is an important quote for journalists to keep in mind, especially while on the job, where they are required to follow a certain standard of rules. 

Jaiah Rodgers Blog Entry Two- "Media Mongol"

My favorite media Mongol is Monica Kaufman from the WSBTV news (Channel 2). The reason she is my favorite media Mongol is because I've watched her ever since I thought of being a journalist and/or in the broadcasting/journalism field. I've always watched her and studied the way that worked in front of the camera.

This light humorous quote shows  a new perspective on how journalism and the job of a reporter can be looked at. The world is filled with darkness, crime, and despair. But it is the job of a reporter is to full fill the duties of informing citizens of harms occuring in our world today. They work hard and put in a lot of hours to ensure awareness is kept intact.

The minute that I glanced at this quote, it really began to make my brain, mind, and soul smile.

I the type of journalist/broadcaster/anchor who loves to live a little. Like, when it boils down to my profession, this is my first because I can be myself the most and contribute to exactly everything that I can do and know much about. When he says "don't participate", I do feel a certain way about that because you do want to experience events and things like such but honestly, you participate visually and behind the scenes as a journalist and this that and the third but overall, this quote stands out to me, very much so.

Inspiration starts with a spark. A person, thing, or idea that stirs an emotion within you is a source of inspiration. My inspiration comes from the media mogul Ryan Seacrest, radio personality, television host, and producer. He runs off of success as he has become an American media icon. His professionalism and charisma make him memorable, as his eased personality allows him to get along well with those he works with. Yet, his "type A" personality keeps him focused and driven on going above and beyond other's accomplishments within his field. He doesn't stop at step one; he gets the job done.

Too me this quote makes me want to continue pursuing journalism because I know just how much power there is in words. Words have as much, if not more, effect on people then physical pains. Words can describe sound, picture, and can even affect a persons emotions. For instance getting hit can leave a mark on your body but as soon as that bruise or scratch heals the memory of words that were exchanged will forever haunt your memories. Words used in journalism make a person think, believe and even take actions both in the present in future. You can't change the past. What has happened cannot be undone or unsaid and especially no erased once it has been written. Words can hurt a person and even lift a person up in a time of struggle. The power that words can have astonishes me especially when in this quote it is compared to something as terrorizing as weapons.

Entry 1

The quote that inspires me the most is the famous saying by the American Freelance journalist Chuck Palahniuk "People have to really suffer before they risk doing what they love". This quote inspires me because before i decided that journalism was for me i really struggled through my first year of highschool school.

Day 1: Inspirational quote

"A news story should be like a mini skirt on a pretty woman. Long enough to cover the subject but short enough to be interesting". This quote makes me realize that with broadcasting you can't be boring because you won't get any viewers and you won't be in the broadcasting business. Your mom always tells us girls to wear our skirts longer to cover everything, and that is exactly how a story should be, it can can be short but it has to cover all the information so that your viewers can understand what your talking about, grasp the concept, and comprehend the intensity. Broadcasting is such an important thing in the world because imagine waking up every morning and the news not being on, or when a tragedy happens not knowing about it. To want to do broadcasting and journalism you have to live up to the expectations and not make people bored with the news. Of course current events are sometimes boring and no one really wants to pay attention to it, but its news that people need to be informed about and there are ways to get everything your want to say across but still have fun with it and not ramble on about politics or worldwide issues. Broadcasting is super fun so be that anchor or editor or producer etc. and make your story fun to listen to and easy to understand for all viewers.

Day 2: Inspiration person(s)

I'm a huge sports fan, I enjoy just about every sport there is.  So for the rest of my life, I want to be around sports, and until a few years ago, I had no idea what the best way would be to do that besides being a professional athlete myself.  Then one morning I was watching Sportscenter, listening to Neil Everett and Scott Van Pelt giving us the latest sports news. And then it hit me.  THAT'S what I want to do.  In the mornings, they anchor Sportscenter, and in the afternoons, they have their own radio shows.  This way they can announce the latest sports news to the nation and then later talk about what they think about the news.  This would be perfect for me, if only ESPN wasn't based all the way up in Bristol, Connecticut...I'd prefer not to go so far away from my hometown of Athens, Georgia.  However, having a local radio sports talk station would be a dream come true for me.  Neil Everett and Scott Van Pelt, even though I have never met them in my life, are the two men that helped me realize exactly what I want to do with my life.  I would love to meet them and tell them this one day.

Day 2: Media Mogul

A Media personality that has been influential to me is Walt Disney.  Disney created an entire world just from his imagination.  He started a business that has no limits.  Walt Disney Studios created classic animated movies and he was the first to air a full color television show.  After all this, Disney created Walt   Disney World.  Disney is inspirational because he didn't set limits to what he could do.

Ryan Seacrest inspires me to be an unpredictable journalist. He is an excellent radio host. Seacrest inspires me do pursue a career in broadcast journalism.

The Media Mogul That Inspires Me

The media mogul that inspires me the most is the radio personality Howard Stern. He is probably the most controversial radio talk show host today because of the lack of regulation over what he can and cannot say. However, I respect what he says sometimes seeing that he tells the truth no matter what the consequences he may have to endure. He talks about topics that people all over the country have on their mind, but are too afraid to speak up about. He is also extremely funny and insightful, which is why he is the unofficial "King of Media". Overall, the fact that Howard Stern speaks the truth about a variety of topics makes him a very influential person in the media culture.

 This quote was inspirational to me because I fully agree that without passion, journalism would be nothing but bland, dull facts on paper. The success of journalism comes from a good writer who is passionate about their work and loves what they do. It is evident when someone is working in a job they don't enjoy because the product has no part of themselves in it; the most successful writer is one who does what it takes and devotes their time and emotions into making their piece as good as it can be. They say you find yourself in high school. This is obviously only true once you have lost yourself a few times first. For the most part, I agree with the previous statement. High school is a journey of triumphs, trials, and just a few straight out freaky experiences. High school allows you to make lifelong friendships or possibly find the one you “love”.  High school can make you, break you, and put you back together. However, I have learned that no matter who you are, where you are, or what you come from, there will always be doubts lurking in the back, or front, of your mind. I have learned that becoming the person you want to be does not happen overnight, but rather takes a lifetime to accomplish. Ann Curry from the Today Show once said, “If you can have faith in your real self, you'll suffer less. Be bold about who you really are.” Sometimes, we are often afraid to show our “real self” because we question whether or not that self will be accepted. Acceptance is what humans crave. So being the outcast can become our greatest fear. To worry so much about what we are not encourages us to forget all that we are. Today, I choose to have faith in my real self and be bold about who I really am.

Day 1: Inspirational Quote

This is the quote I always pull out when my team complains that their stroy isn't "interesting" or "gripping" enough.  YOU have to make the story interesting and gripping with how you present the product itself.  You have to be creative with your story and present it in such a way that will grab people's attentions.  All aspiring journalists should strive to live by this quote and not just those interested in broadcasting, because it also relates to writers and photographers who get "stuck" with a story that they find "boring."  There's always a way to make a story interesting, you just have to be creative enough to find a way to do so.

No matter what a story is about, who is in it, or who is reporting it, it always has to grab the viewer's attention and make them want to keep listening. Whether it is about the opening of a store, the weather, or a dangerous high-speed car chase, a story has to be memorable. This is one of my goals when it comes to putting together a broadcast. I would never want to let down the students who tune in every other Wednesday to SFTV, my high school's broadcast. After two years of creating and building SFTV, our broadcasting team has found how to be an example of this statement. High school students have an extremely short attention span, and after watching about 20 seconds of a boring newscast, they don't want to see any more. We thought, why not make it fun and informative?

We did this by creating an SAT vocabulary word skit. Fellow students in the journalism class get together and create a fun, exciting, and hilarious skit that students love. I am extremely proud when I hear other students talking about the latest SAT skit. It inspires me to keep helping improve the broadcast by making it more entertaining and memorable for students.

This quote is not only important because of its inspiring message, but because I have been tuning in to Shephard Smith's show since I was a child. When learning how to read, I would read the words scrolling at the bottom of the television. He was my first celebrity-crush. While looking back at files on an old computer, I found recordings of me "filling in" for him while he wasn't on the show. This quote is very inspiring because it inspires me to always think about what a viewer will want to see and hear, which will help in every aspect of creating a wonderful, memorable final product that viewers love.

Kalin's Inspirational Quote

     “The First Law of Journalism: to confirm existing prejudice, rather than contradict it” Alexander Cockburn I really like this quote because it says a lot of things some unsuccessful journalists have not come to understand. When it comes to an interview when someone is needed to confess, make sure they are comfortable about it because if they aren't, they could start a big controversy around the journalist. Our job is to confirm facts, not start scandals and other horrible things.

While writing scripts is a major part of broadcast journalism, when the camera starts rolling anything can happen.  This quote is inspirational to me because it implies that the only way to perfect skills in journalism and other areas of life is through practice.  Experience creates the ability to work through difficult situations.  Though Bourdain's personality is full of humor and sarcasm, he has incredible experience in the travel journalism feild that has taught him to be able to speak to the camera without a script.

There is little I love to do more than laugh and when I read this I cracked up. With journalism and broadcasting, I find it very important to add a bit of your personality into what you are doing so you can have a true connection with your audience and viewers. I was reading some quotes and they were very serious for the most part and when I read this quote it showed me that it's alright to keep the mood light when appropriate and you can't take your job or life too seriously.

My Inspirational Quote

"We do things with a wink and a nod. If you don't include yourself in the critique, you have no business doing it." I chose this quote because it demonstrates how reporters are just as human as everyone else. A true reporter does not think of themselves as above everyone, but, rather, he/she tries to find common ground with people they come into contact with. A reporter understands that he/she is flawed and that one can learn from and embrace the mistakes one makes. Anderson Cooper is one of my favorite anchors because he holds himself up to these standards. He knows he is not perfect and he applies this common, human attribute through his reporting and anchoring. He strives to get his point across by being himself.

My Inspirational Quote

Anderson Cooper To me, this quote represents one of the main purposes of broadcast journalism: make sure you focus on the story. The news should focus on stories, not on making the reporter look good. While the latter's still important, the mission of news is to inform the public. The story should also be the truth, not manipulated into something you want it to be. This quote represents both of those aspects and condenses major points about news into one sentence.
